Time out for me.

Last night we had a nice date night out at the soccer game, sans kids. It was kind of cold and rainy, and our team lost (they were playing LA Galaxy which is one of the best teams in the league), but we had fun and it was nice to walk hand in hand rather than each of us lugging a kid and gear along.

One of the biggest points of contention between Mr.P and I is the use of free time. While I am a SAHM, I really don't get a lot of free time. Sure there is nap time - but often I use at least half that time cleaning up, preparing food, doing laundry, feeding P5, or if I'm lucky taking a short nap myself. My free time comes in very little increments. Another factor about being a SAHM - my job is to watch the kids and that causes my days/evenings/weekends to all blur together. Unlike Mr.P who has clear definition between work and home. On the weekends when I ask him to help out he complains that he wants to relax. What about me? Don't I get to relax too?! Mr.P will also frequently go to happy hour with his co-workers but then come home and want to shut himself off in the bedroom to do work stuff he is behind on. He doesn't really get it when I say that any time he is out doing something other than work, he is cutting into family time.

The opportunity came along for me to sign up for a cake decorating class with a friend. It is a class that meets for 2 hours every Wednesday evening for 6 weeks. Tonight is the first class and I'm looking forward to having a chance to get out and do something fun. Mr.P and my friend's husband are going to hang out and watch our (collective) 5 children.
