Little M2 stayed home with me on Thursday, she was coughing and stuffed up and I knew that if I sent her to daycare they would call and want her sent home. She was so happy to be home with me! Despite being sick, she kept a smile on her face and was babbling away to me.
Last night she developed a fever and her dry, barking cough had turned wet and horse. I called the pediatricians office today to see about bringing her in again (in addition to being a germaphobe, I'm also a bit of a hypochondriac. Just wanted to make sure my baby wasn't coming down with pnemonia or anything!). The receptionist informed me that M2's regular pediatrician was out of the office and asked if we would see someone else. I said that was fine, as long as it wasn't Dr. Bill (aka, Dr. McCreepy). We got an appt for later in the morning with a wonderful pediatrician I've nicknamed Dr. Sunshine. She was so friendly and gentle with my sick little baby.
Turns out M2 has an ear infection and that was the cause of the fever. Her lungs sound clear despite the hacking cough, and with the antibiotics and some rest, she should be feeling better in a couple days. Big sigh of relief!
I must say, being home these past few days with M2 have made me question if being a working mom is for me. I have loved spending time with her, and I have felt so much more relaxed. I thoroughly enjoy not having to deal with pumping, bottles, cleaning bottles and pump parts. Just breastfeeding her on demand has been so liberating. I will have to see how things go in the next few weeks and decide what will be best for our family...
