Losing sleep.

Last night we got an email from the buyer's agent saying that the buyer was still thinking about her concessions and she'd let us know when she has her list. She also mentioned that there was a sewer issue that needs immediate attention and also - hey, did we know that our next door neighbor's sewer drain hooks into our side sewer and then runs out to the city drain on our property? Fantastic! That couple already seems to dislike us (the kids are constantly running into their yard, onto their porch, picking their flowers, etc). They are going to really dislike us when we have to knock on their door and ask them to pay half of the side sewer repair costs. This kind of stuff can be expensive - like thousands of dollars. Ugh.

Yesterday I was feeling OK with being in limbo, today I'm just over it and ready to know if we are staying or moving. Last night I woke up at 2 AM feeling wide awake as I played out various scenarios in my head for how things could go down. Will the deal go through? Will the neighbors be nice about paying their part for the sewer repair? What other concessions will the buyer ask for? How long will this drag out? When can we really start looking for a new house? (I've looked at a few places but until we know this deal is going through, we do not want to put down money on a new house that we could potentially lose).

Honestly, I kind of feel like the deal is going to fall through. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but the writing is on the wall. Today the buyer's agent emailed to let us know that her client is still drawing up all the estimates of the various repairs she thinks the house needs and we likely won't get the list until next week. Seriously? There are that many things that they need DAYS to write up. Ugh again.

In regards to the sewer issue - what if the neighbors are dicks about it and say they won't pay? Then should we be even bigger dicks and threaten to cut off their sewer drain to our side sewer? (That would then cost them in the $10k+ range to have a new separate side sewer put in. Of course legally we can't just block off their sewer line, but we can engage lawyers to go after them to either pay half for our repair or force them to put in their own side sewer). After all, if we are going to be shelling out big bucks to fix the sewer, and if we end up staying in the house, we want to protect our sewer line and know that nothing is going down the drain that could cause more problems.

I feel like this whole thing has been hard - that everything has had delays and issues. I just wish for once something would go right and in an efficient time span! Ahhhh!
