P5 is a month old! Size wise he is a big boy - on Monday at his doctor appt he weighed in at 11 lbs! Silly me still worries at times if he is getting enough to eat. Here's his "1 month" photo. I regret that I didn't take these monthly photos of M2, so I bought the stickers and have "vowed" that I will keep track of his monthly growth. Isn't he a handsome little guy? You can definitely tell he is 50% Dutch.
M2 is doing well and is most certainly a toddler. Toddlers are funny little creatures...watching her at times makes me laugh. Watching her personality and language skills develop has been fun. In the morning when she wakes up, she opens her door (it can be reached from her crib) and she yells out for us to come get her. When I arrive to pick her up, she makes sure to pick up and hold tightly to her special blanket and her stuffed kitty. If these items are not in hand she will scream. She's doing better at independently playing, which is good because it makes breastfeeding P5 easier when M2 is able to entertain herself for small windows of time. Here she is driving her car and playing with my iphone (where would she learn to drive and play with a phone?!)
They are getting along fairly well. M2 is curious about her brother, and loves to poke his nose. She's learning to be gentle and I'm able to leave him in the swing or on the couch for a few minutes with her in the room and I know that she won't hurt him. When he cries she likes to try giving him a pacifier, and she is often trying to "give" him her toys (namely the small plastic animals from her Noah's Ark Little People set).
Having two is not twice as hard, which was what I feared before P5 arrived. There are definitely challenging moments, but for the most part I'm able to meet both their needs and keep up with the basic household chores. Sometimes I feel like 75% of my day is consumed with feeding them - either breastfeeding P5 or preparing/cleaning up after M2's meals and snacks. The hardest part has been that if we have a bad night with P5 (like last night) and I am exhausted come morning time, I can't just sleep here and there throughout the day when he's sleeping because I have M2 to chase around. Luckily she still naps for 2-3 hours a day so I am able to often get in a small nap (if P5 has eaten and is amenable to sleeping too).
I'm hoping to write more often, and write about other random things than just these boring updates on how things are going....stay tuned.
I love hearing about you guys and seeing pictures, so keep the updates coming! :)
